8 Things to do in London over the Summer Break

Here are a few recommendations for children under the age of 11 on activities to do in London over the extensive summer break!

 

City farms

Visual art in the heart of Mayfair

Mayfair

The Royal Academy each month runs a family studios workshop on a Sunday 11am-3pm inviting children to explore visual art. This is also suitable for children with special educational needs. They will be taken through the galleries by Art Detective trails to allow them to see great works of art from their own perspectives. Check out the website for more information and book it in!

 

Clip and Climb

Chelsea – ages 4 and above

This venue is suitable for all abilities and ages and it completely safe for beginners but still includes challenges for children who feel comfortable enough to try them. This is a great colourful venue for children to gain confidence in climbing and dropping. Book your place on the website.

 

Sleepover at the Natural History Museum

South Kensington – ages 7 to 11

‘Dino Snores for kids’ is a once in a lifetime opportunity for kids to sleep amongst the dinosaurs at one of the best museums in London. There are many workshops in the evening for kids such as explore a touch-lit trail, get creative with a dinosaur t-shirt making workshop and a science show presented by a museum scientist. The Planetarium

Greenwich – all ages

There is such a variety of shows on offer for children to enjoy over the summer break depending what tickles your fancy! Explore the webpage to book in a show, presented live by a Royal Observatory Astronomer.

 

Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes

Bloomsbury – all ages

Everyone knows all too well how the British weather can be temperamental, this activity can be saved for a rainy day. Bloomsbury bowling has 8 lanes for hire for the family to go head-to-head and if you feel especially brave, there are also private karaoke rooms to book where you can choose the songs to have a sing-a-long to!

 

Emirates Airline Cable Car

North Greenwich

The Emirates Air Line is a cable car that links across the River Thames, on the cable car you can see the best sights of London and then go on to exploring the Royal Docks.

 

The Science Museum

South Kensington

The Science Museum is designed for all ages and has interactive activities throughout the museum. The museum also holds Science Night for ages 8-11 to enjoy. Check out the website to see what is going on!
