Physical Education

At The Lyceum we believe in providing children with a broad experience of physical activities.  Our focus is on teaching children skills and the correct handling of equipment which they build on over the years at school.

We are committed to providing children with a physical activity every day and believe that this instils in them a positive attitude towards health and fitness.  At The Lyceum, physical activities are taught within a positive, fun and safe environment and children are encouraged to participate in all activities to the best of their abilities.  Great emphasis is placed on safety, enjoyment, fitness and sportsmanship.

As a school situated in the City of London, we do not have our own on-site facilities.  We use local facilities and Games are taught at the Artillery Ground on City Road and are linked to the seasons.  We have an annual whole school sports day to which parents are invited.  Tennis, netball and swimming are taught at Golden Lane Sports Centre, in the Barbican, where qualified lifeguards and instructors observe and instruct the children.  Bunhill Fields is used for other outdoor and sporting activities.

Gymnastics, Dance and Drama are taught in the school gallery.  From October to April, children enjoy several sessions of ice-skating at the Broadgate Ice Rink.
