Ms Denton has been teaching for 20 years, 12 of which have been in Head of Department roles. During her teaching career, she has taught pupils from Nursery age all the way up to A-Level. Her first experience began in Cambridge as a flute tutor at The Leys Girls School before volunteering at Moshi International School in Tanzania. Returning to the UK, she undertook her PGCE and NQT years in Wales and began to teach class music as well as conduct choirs. The next 9 years were spent in inner city secondary schools, where she was responsible for GCSE and A-level music, before she took on the role of Head of Music at The Lyceum.
Ms Denton has an MA in Conducting from the University of Surrey and has conducted at prestigious venues including Christ Church Spitalfields, Llandaff Cathedral, Guildford Cathedral and the Hackney Empire, as well as supporting a choir who sung with Andrea Bocelli in Leeds Arena. Ms Denton plays the flute, recorder, piano and violin to a high standard, as well as the guitar, bass guitar and the clarinet, albeit to a lesser degree! She enjoys nurturing the seed of music in all children and encouraging them to believe that they are all unique musicians through listening, singing, composing and performing. Recently Ms Denton was delighted to be asked to take on the role of Music Subject Champion for Dukes Education, a challenge she is looking forward to getting her teeth into!
