You are never too far away from a pharmacist

The new academic year is starting, and we all know how often kids bring sneezing and sniffles home from school, so Boots encourages us to visit the pharmacist first…

As the autumn term begins, we had the delightful opportunity to be part of Boots UK “Pharmacist first” campaign right here at The Lyceum School! It was such fun having a local Boots pharmacist join us at the school gates, helping families cross safely while sharing invaluable tips on staying well through the busy back-to-school season. Watching our pupils and their parents engage with a health professional in this warm and approachable setting was a real highlight!

Boots’ recent findings show that about one-third (32%)* of adults start feeling under the weather post-summer, and many of those illnesses, coughs, colds, and headaches, often come via our little ones returning to the classroom. Yet, nearly 40%* of adults admit to putting their health on the back burner during this hectic time, often because they feel like they’re burdening their GP or simply can’t find the time.

This is why the “pharmacist first” message is so timely and makes perfect sense for school communities like ours. Boots reminds us that pharmacists are ready and available to diagnose, advise, and offer treatment for everyday ailments such as coughs, colds, flu, and more. It was a comfort to hear that nearly 8 in 10 people live within a ten-minute walk of a Boots store and that many common conditions can be resolved without a GP visit.

Seeing a real pharmacist become part of our school day, even briefly, felt like a gentle nudge: prioritise your health, and reach out to your local pharmacy first when pesky symptoms arise. It’s efficient, accessible, and for many families, a reassuring alternative to waiting for a GP appointment.

Being part of this campaign allowed our school community to experience firsthand how Boots is helping families navigate the new term more healthily and confidently. The campaign isn’t just a reminder, it’s a simple, practical health message delivered right where it matters: at the heart of school life.

A huge thank you to the Boots team for an unforgettable day our students will cherish, and to Ask The Impossible and Yellow br for bringing this amazing collaboration to life!
