Extra Curricular Activities at Lyceum School

Our Extracurricular Activities 

Our clubs programme is designed to broaden horizons, and it changes with the seasons and with our pupils’ interests. Here is a flavour of what’s on offer. 

Creative and Performing Arts 

Budding artists and performers can explore Arts & Crafts, Oodles of Doodles, Cartoon Club, Art Club and Design Club with Lego. For those who love to perform, there is Drama Club, Ballet, Pom Cheer, Pom Dance, Boogie Beats and Street Dance. These clubs build on our specialist art teaching and the many performance opportunities across the school year. 

Sport and Movement 

From Mini Movers and Multisports for our youngest pupils to Football, Table Tennis, Fencing and Judo for older children, our sports clubs develop coordination, fitness and team spirit. They complement our curriculum sport programme and our inter-House competitions. 

Music and Languages 

Music Club and Sing & Sign, which introduces British Sign Language through song, sit alongside our thriving music department, choirs and ensembles. Language lovers can extend their learning with Spanish, French and Mandarin clubs. 

STEM and Problem Solving 

Curious minds thrive in Lego Club, Model Building Club, Computer Club, Chess Club and Number Mayhem, our early-morning maths club. These clubs build logical thinking, perseverance and creativity, and they extend the hands-on learning pupils enjoy in our STEAM Studio. 

Cooking and Life Skills 

In Big Cook Little Cook and Ready Set Bake, children learn to follow recipes, measure ingredients and work as a team, with delicious results. 

Wellbeing and Quieter Time 

Not every child wants to run around at the end of a busy day. Story Time, Film Club and Homework Club offer calmer ways to unwind. Late Club gives our youngest pupils a relaxed, supervised space until pick-up. 

Seasonal and Ad Hoc Clubs 

Alongside our weekly timetable, we run ad hoc clubs throughout the year. We also introduce new activities each term in response to pupil suggestions, so the programme always feels fresh.

Club Timetables 

Our club timetables are updated each term, so the programme stays varied and reflects what our pupils want to try next. Activities vary by year group so that every club is pitched at the right level. Places are subject to availability, and we regularly introduce new clubs in response to pupil interest and feedback. Browse the current timetables for each year group below. 

Why Extracurricular Activities Matter 

Extracurricular activities are far more than a way to fill the hours after school. Research summarised in the Education Endowment Foundation’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit shows that activities such as arts participation and physical activity can have a positive effect on pupils’ learning and wellbeing. At The Lyceum, our clubs help children develop: 

• Confidence. Performing in a Drama Club showcase or trying a new skill for the first time teaches children that they can do hard things.
• Resilience. Fencing, judo and chess all involve setbacks. Learning to lose gracefully, reflect and try again is one of the most valuable lessons a child can learn.
• Teamwork. Multisports, Football and Big Cook Little Cook depend on cooperation, communication and shared goals.
• Creativity. From Cartoon Club to Design Club with Lego, children are free to imagine, experiment and make something that is entirely their own.
• Leadership. Mixed-age clubs give older pupils the chance to support younger ones, building on the responsibility they take on as House Captains and peer mentors.
• Communication skills. Language clubs, Sing & Sign and drama build clear, confident communicators.
• Independence. Choosing a club, remembering the right kit and seeing a commitment through all help children take ownership of their time.

These are the qualities we nurture across school life and our academic curriculum at The Lyceum. They help our pupils flourish at prep school and prepare them to thrive at senior school and beyond.
