Book of the Month – Esio Trot by Roald Dahl

Welcome to the new blog feature, the monthly book club!

Reading is essential for growth and development. Reading a book dares the reader to step into an unknown storyline, get to know new characters and give the ability to give you a change of perspective or changing of reality.

Reading is compulsory within the school curriculum, but it is also crucial to read books outside the curriculum at home, so a child can explore what kinds of genres and authors they enjoy, to help the love of reading develop organically.

Today, Thursday 13th September 2018 is Roald Dahl day, so what better to start our blog than picking a classic from Roald Dahl. To be honest, we would recommend any of his works as they are classically brilliant but today we will take a deeper look into Esio Trot.

One of his last stories, Esio Trot is a great book for children who are not used to reading at home or claim that they hate to read. This is one of his shorter books with fantastic illustrations by Quentin Blake.

The book is based on the character Mr. Hoppy, who is hopelessly in love with Mrs. Silver, but her heart belongs to her tortoise, Alfie. Mr. Hoppy comes up with a brilliant idea to win her heart, but this will take 140 tortoises, an ancient spell and some magic.

Let us know if you have read this book or have any suggestions for next month’s book.
