Poetry Together 2021

students and famous faces together

What do remembrance poems, a royal and a Victoria sponge cake have in common?

Poetry Together of course!

This November our Year 6 class took to the stage to perform their renditions of Why Wear a Poppy by Don Crawford and In Flanders Fields by John McCrae as part of the annual Poetry Together celebration.

Poetry Together is a free initiative that encourages schools and care homes to connect with each other, learn a poem off by heart, and come together to recite.

Performing on stage is nerve wracking enough, but our Year 6s had one very special guest to impress: Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall. Impress they certainly did!

At the event, we also heard performances from Chelsea Pensioners, St Vincent’s School for Sensory Impairment, Whitehill Junior School, and Knightsbridge School before being treated to The Duchess’ own Victoria sponge recipe.

Well done to all our pupils who took part!
